Moving Location

August 11th, 2012 by admin No comments »

Well spent part of my day today flying over Afghanistan en route to my new location at MOB Price. Ive now moved until the end of tour which was a bit of a pain as it meant that i had to pack up all my kit. Its quite a surprise how much stuff you aquire considering that im roughly halfway through now.

Im still doing the same role as what i was at Bastion so the job wont change too much other than it is a smaller location. however as we have quite a few Dets within our AO i hopefully should get out on even more trips, only downside is that they look to be road moves as oppose to the normal Helli transport that im a custom too.

Being smaller than Bastion means that the lifestyle is a bit more basic, could be worse but the main thing im missing is the gym as the one here dosent have a massive amount of equipment but i suppose it beats using ammo tins to do some bicep curls.

4 weeks till R&R …and it cant come soon enough ūüėČ

Sanger Life

July 22nd, 2012 by admin No comments »

Well I thought I would throw a quick post up since it has been a while. The above is from when I was on Sanger duty, as you can see not very interesting when all you have to look at is the open desert for 24hrs

It’s getting warmer and warmer here, creaping from 45deg upwards so when I was off shif I ended up sleeping outside as being up in the Sanger in all the kit it got pretty warm

BBQ Al Fresco Style

June 25th, 2012 by admin No comments »

Well the BBQ season is slowly coming upon us. No such here out in Afghan the days do get a bit repetitive and you seem to count down the days like you were in prison! So anything out of the norm is a welcome break as it breaks it up a bit. So we got some Al Fresco cooking on and had a BBQ. Was a good shout the only thing missing was beer, haven’t touched a drop in over 2 months now… Was still good to sit down and chill out with everyone for a bit, even though I had to stay sober

I am trying to upload some photos of my tour to my gallery so look out for them soon

Across the wire

June 8th, 2012 by admin No comments »

Well a bit of a delayed update but a couple of week ago I had my first trip across the wire, made a nice change to get out of Camp Bastion in order to do a site Reccie. So picked up my bombs and bullets and jumped on a Chinnock in order to go over to a small PB located in the north of Helmand Province.

Part of my journey was meant to be a road move but I managed to blag a lift in the chopper all the way there, in order to try and minimise my time on the ground. Was only meant to be out for about 15 hours but because the PB was under contact quite frequently I ended up having to stay there for 3 or 4 days, living conditions were basic to say the least but at least I managed to get some good work done while I was there. With the option to get out on the ground quite a bit and the opportunity to get round Bastion quite a bit should split the tour up nicely. Seeing the area from the air makes you appreciate just how big this place is
